Many medical professionals will advise cow’s milk-based formula or fortifiers for premature babies during their early life. Formula brands such a Similac and Enfamil also market their products as a nutritionally complete human milk alternative to help your baby gain weight. These high-calorie cow’s milk-based products were designed specifically for premature babies by manufacturing giants such as Abbott and Mead Johnson. However, evidence has suggested that Similac and Enfamil can cause premature infants to develop necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).
